The Town of Alpena Municipal Election has been postponed until Tuesday, June 30, 2020!

Effective immediately, the Alpena Town Board has decided to cancel all reservations at the Alpena Community Center, and close the fitness center until further notice. They will re-evaluate in the coming days/weeks as we learn of new developments regarding the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic!

The city of Alpena is also urging its residents to help reduce the risk of sewer blockages during the Covid-19 pandemic by reminding property owners not to flush wet wipes, paper towels or feminine hygience products down the toilets.  These items do not break down like toilet tissue and should be disposed of in the trash!

Alpena is located in the heart of East Central South Dakota. We're a small community with a diverse population. We are southwest of Huron and Northwest of Mitchell and are surrounded by several other small communities. This gives us the advantage of being centrally located for purposes of education, entertainment, shopping, etc. We celebrated 125 years in Alpena in 2008 with 3 days of great food, good fun and lots of memories.
